Comfort is another rare and wonderful gift. Do you remember a time in your childhood when you had a wound and your mother would kiss it, bandage it, and then tell you everything’s going to be alright?
Or maybe when you got older, someone you cared about so deeply left you or was gone with whatever reason it was, and your friends were there telling you it’s going to be okay and that you’ll get over it, giving you words of encouragement?
Such memories are warm and wonderful. Still, sometimes the comfort from loved ones is not enough. Sometimes the hurt is so deep that no human voice or touch can take away the pain completely. No mere bandage can ever cover the damage.
That’s when you need to understand the comfort I’ll be talking about – the comfort of God. This is not some mystical, magical, faraway concept. God does really provide comfort to those who call upon Him in times of need.
I’ve been through a lot of adversity and trouble and hurt and pain in all my 34 years of living, and I have personally experienced the comfort, love, and encouragement that come from my relationship with our Father in heaven through the Lord Jesus Christ. That’s why I can tell you this.
The problem is, sometimes we are so busy blaming God for our problems that we don’t even realize how close He is and how much He wants to comfort us.
Unlike human comfort which feels good for a moment, God’s comfort supplies strength and wisdom that will last for a lifetime and beyond.
The meaning of comfort takes on a deeper significance as the Scriptures describe it. God’s comfort is something of strength and refreshment and nearness to Him.
The Word of God says in Joshua 1:5 “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” Do you realize that God is always with you even in the bad times? Go to Him in prayer and through His Word. There you’ll find strength, safety, and solace. God wants us to realize his nearness so we can feel His overwhelming love.
Go ahead. Don’t worry. Ask God for comfort in every detail of your life.
